Introduction:

What is MAGIC?
MAGIC
is (a rearrangement of) an Integrative and Accurate approach for Comparative Genome Mapping. It is a tool for accurate mapping of genomes. MAGIC can be used for identifying orthologous segments, analyzing duplications events, studying rearrangements, locating potential horizontal transfer events, etc.

Where can I get support on MAGIC?
Questions should be posted to the mailing list.

In what programming language is MAGIC implemented?
MAGIC's engine is implemented in C/C++. MAGIC's GUI is implemented in java.

Is Magic's source code freely available?
Yes. MAGIC is distributed under the GNU Public License.

Compiling source code:

On which platforms does MAGIC run?

The current version can be run on Windows XP/98 platform.
Magic also compatible with Linux platform, till now it has been tested only on Red Hat 8.

Which Java version does it require?

Magic has been tested on Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition : 1.4.1_02 and 1.5.x.  Since Magic works with SWT packages it should run on 1.3.x too. any questions regarding java platforms or if you happen to have a problem running Magic you can post a support request throughout mailing list.

Can one run MAGIC from the command line?

You can run magic by simply clicking on the "RunMe.bat ".
it can be run also from the root directory by the command:
